Government announces end date for ELG Scheme (Government Guarantee)

The Government today announced that the ELG Scheme (Government Guarantee) will end on 28 March 2013.

There are no changes to the Deposit Guarantee Scheme, which guarantees your deposits up to €100,000 per person, per institution. The Deposit Guarantee Scheme is operated by the Central Bank and under the scheme, depositors in Irish institutions have the same protection as all other depositors in Europe.

If you currently have more than €100,000 in a fixed term deposit, or open a fixed term deposit of more than €100,000 before 28 March 2013, the protection of the ELG will remain in place for amounts over €100,000 until the end of the term, up to a maximum of five years. The first €100,000 will continue to be guaranteed by the Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
